Botswana, Capital Markets in Africa — The Botswana Stock Exchange Equity Markets positive sentiment kept up momentum as the Local Asset Sector Index (LASI), Domestic Financial Sector Index (DFSI) and the foreign Composite index registered further gains at the end of trading today. Market capitalisation also added at the end of the days session with price gains in Financial stocks leading the way.
The Botswana Domestic Composite Index (DCI) remained flat on 10,598.53 points, no change from its previous close.
The Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) was up after the days trading closing at 794.46 gaining 1.50 points from its previous close of 792.96 points, a change of 0.19 percent (LASI is made up of the domestic companies and all foreign companies awarded the local asset status by the Ministry of Finance and development planning).
The Foreign Composite Index (FCI) traded up to close 1,566.14 points after the days trading closing 0.21 percent or 3.21 points ahead after several weeks on a flat line.
The Domestic financial Sector index (DFSI) which is composed of all domestic financial sector companies, also traded up after the days session moving forward by 0.04 percent or 0.48 points to close on 1230.13 points.
The market capitalisation settled at BWP 419,677.35 million adding BWP 760.5 million to the US$ 418,916.85 recorded previously with the Domestic Equity BWP accounting for BWP 50,242.00 million and the Foreign Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 369,435.35 million.
From a market activity perspective, the total daily volume settled at 5,979,061 shares traded which were exchanged from the 24,238 million Securities issued bringing the total turnover of those shares traded on the domestic and foreign main boards to BWP 30,418,276.56 million.
Leading the market activity in terms of the traded volumes were FNBB recording volume figures of 2,337,555, Letshego with 1,182,689, followed by Furnmart with 524,270.
The session today registered three price gainers and two price losers today leaving market breadth positive, Choppies was up 2 points to close at BWP 423 per share, NAP was up 1 point to close at BWP 247 per share and Turnstar was up 1 points to close at BWP 300 per share.
In terms of the price losers ENGEN was down 1 point to close at BWP 850 per share and Letshego was down 1 point to close at BWP 309 per share.
